When we moved to The Portola earlier this year I stuck my nose into the window's at Breakfast at Tiffany's looking for signs of life, and after I saw a construction permit sign in the window over the summer I stalked their progress whenever I passed by. San Bruno Avenue has a ton of great food already, but we were missing a diner.
During our European vacation I vowed to check my email as little as possible, but Jole kept track of things at home and heard B at Ts would reopen while we were away. When we got off the plane from Paris via Washington, D.C. we were starving for an American meal, so we dumped our bags and went straight there!
Since I never visited the earlier version of B at Ts I didn't have anything to compare it to but I immediately loved the huge windows and airy space in the dining room. The counter along the left wall is leftover from the previous restaurant, and the hardwood and white tile make the space feel large and welcoming. I could tell it was spacious enough to be stroller friendly and Mia had the honor of being the first baby to use their highchairs.
The whole place reads classic diner with delicious, no fuss food to match. I had the Inflation Fighter, a platter of eggs, sausage and hashbrowns plus toast and coffee for about $9. Jole went for the Sunrise Special, with delicious pancakes instead of hashbrowns. I could not have dreamed up a better first-meal-back-in-SF than this hearty warm breakfast. Needless to say we had more than enough food to make a hearty plate for Mia too, and we finished everything in record time. Beyond the breakfast classics, their specials board features seasonal options like a dungeness crab omelette and pumpkin pancakes.

Everything was delicious—the food came out fast and hot from the kitchen, and the service was equally hospitable. Breakfast is an easy meal to make and a lot of local restaurants are big on fancy versions of classics. B at Ts does a great job keeping it simple and delicious. The staff knows the history of the restaurant in the neighborhood and they're working hard to make sure people are happy with the new version of this community classic. So far they've nailed it, because we loved it so much we went back a few days later on Saturday morning and there was already a list and a line. I was also so glad to see the manager had changing tables installed in the few days between our visits. We were the first people to use those too :) We've gone back a total of three times, because its just that good!
MAMA SAYS: Breakfast At Tiffanys is a must for a really good breakfast, big portions and welcoming service, all in a neighborhood you've probably missed. Totally worth the drive if you haven't visited Portola before!
