We have no issues taking Mia just about everywhere, and its an extra special treat to discover places where kids are appreciated as part of the community like we found at the newly created Tuesday night family dinner at Pig & Pie in the Mission.
Pig & Pie started a family night in December and we went with our friends Tim, Sarah and their nine-month old son Alex to check it out. It was great to walk into a restaurant and see every table have at least one kid! The space has plenty of room to maneuver, and the toy filled bookshelf makes it clear kids are allowed to be kids here. Mia had a blast playing around with other kids and there was an instance sense of community—everyone watched out for each other's toddlers, fawned over all the babies in the room and talked about how little sleep we're all getting. It was fantastic!

And between all that fun we also ate quite well. The menu is set up perfectly for sharing so we one of all the veggie dishes, and a few mains so everyone could try everything. Sarah and I both had the fried chicken salad, a magical mix of a ton of chopped fried chicken and a tangy dressing over dark greens. It was delicious and so big we both had leftovers. Jole's meatballs were slightly spicy and perfect with everyone's our side dish, macaroni and cheese, a must-have as well (and I am an expert at mac and cheese). On another visit I had a chicken sausage, another winner.
And then there's the pie. They're all house made, and I tried the apple and it was delicious so I am going to assume all the rest of them are equally awesome. Right now they also have about 16 beers on tap along with a few wine choices. I had the house-made mint rosewater lemonade, which was incredible as well.
I watched as owners Miles and Michelle welcomed every table and went out of their way to make sure all were comfortable, and the staff did an amazing job serving food in such an energetic atmosphere.
MAMA SAYS: Pig & Pie's family dinner is a must for the food, for the company and the community. The food is great any time of the week, so drop in with the kids and your friends to relax over a beer and a great meal.
