Last year when I met with Alli Cuentos for her Mamas of SF interview, she had a huge question for me: would I be interested in working with her and a few other women to open a holistic health center in San Francisco? Yes please! I immediately signed on, excited to be a part of a "startup" in this city where everyone is creating something new.
I’m proud to share that less than a year later Community Well is now open! Located in the Excelsior at 78 Ocean Avenue, the space is a welcoming spot for anyone seeking support for prenatal, postnatal and maternal health support, and a host of other services and classes for the whole family. Many of the programs are offered in multiple languages.
My attraction to joining the Community Well team (I serve as President of the Community Well Fund, the organization’s fundraising arm) was selfish in part. I really wanted to be part of creating a space so families in the southern part of the city could readily access services that are found in other neighborhoods. Once we moved to Portola I found most of the parenting and family programs we were used to took place across town. Community Well solves that issue for us and a lot of other folks by offering a great range of programs nearby.
I dropped in on an infant developmental Movement class. Seriously it was the cutest thing ever!
And what are those programs? Everything from acupuncture to lactation consulting to fertility awareness to infant massage is on the schedule, and more classes are added weekly.
Community Well is a social enterprise and the founders have committed to providing affordable services. Fees for most classes and sessions are on a sliding scale and we also offer scholarships for those seeking financial support for more expensive services.
