Last weekend in between hailstorms Mia and I discovered a purple playland in Crocker Amazon. We were heading to a soccer tournament in the same location, and parking woes forced us to circle the block when Mia yelled out, "Oooh mama! I want to go on those purple slides!" At that moment we found a space and decided to take a detour to the playground before heading to the games on the other side of the park.
She was right! This is known as the Purple Park Playground for good reason, because it is really purple! If your kids are into slides they will love it here—there's a total of six slides for all sizes and ages. (And yes, we are into climbing UP the slide, since its good for kids for a bunch of reasons, like this post outlines!)
Even though it rained (and even hailed!!) most of the morning, we arrived during a gorgeous stretch of sunny weather bright enough to dry things out. I would imagine most Sundays it would be packed, but on that day us and another family were the only ones there, and Mia took advantage to run around to her heart's content.
Another perk of this park is the fully accessible play structure. It's huge and with a gentle slope rising from one end to the other kids using wheelchairs or other assistive devices and easily join in the fun on the upper levels of the playground.
If you're entertaining kids of multiple ages this space has enough to keep everyone occupied, from new walkers on up. There are only two infant swings if that's your thing, but with everything else on offer here the lack of swings isn't as noticeable. And again, there are slides everywhere! This would be a great place for a picnic too, since there are tables in the play area and tons of grass that would be great to hang out in when its not so wet.
My only real complaint is that the bathrooms aren't closer, so if your kids need to pee you'll have to pack up all your stuff and head toward the baseball diamonds. Not the biggest deal in the world, but with kids a bathroom emergency can pop up at any time, so be forewarned! Otherwise I'm looking forward to our return trip to Crocker Amazon playground on a warmer, dryer day.
